Media Release: ARCS evolves into LifeSciences Australia
June 11, 2026
ARCS evolves into LifeSciences Australia, recognising its expanded role supporting professionals across the growing life sciences sector.
Sydney, 11th June: Australia’s national peak body representing life sciences professionals, ARCS, has announced its evolution into LifeSciences Australia – responding to both the increasing breadth of the organisation’s professional community and its expanded role supporting the people at the heart of Australia’s growing life sciences sector.
Australia has established a global reputation for clinical trial excellence and world-leading research, with the sector growing by more than 40% over the past four years – contributing an estimated A$250 billion to the national economy and employing close to 350,000 people.[i] Maintaining momentum increasingly relies on a highly capable, connected and future-focused workforce. The evolution to LifeSciences Australia recognises the organisation’s role in supporting this by advancing professional standards, fostering greater collaboration across the sector and strengthening the collective voice of the life sciences professions.
LifeSciences Australia supports more than 38,000 professionals across 3,300 organisations spanning the full spectrum of the life sciences – from early research through to regulation, development, and commercialisation. Its growing ecosystem of initiatives includes education and training, thought leadership and industry insights, innovation support and future talent development, providing support across all stages of the life sciences career journey.
Established in 1984 as a professional community for regulatory specialists and clinical scientists, the organisation has long been recognised for its industry-leading training and flagship Annual Conference. Over time the organisation has expanded well beyond this original remit, establishing a strong reputation as the professional home for life sciences. The evolution to LifeSciences Australia builds on this longstanding credibility and trust, while better reflecting what the organisation has become.
LifeSciences Australia CEO, Dr Tim Boyle, said: “For more than 40 years, ARCS has supported the professionals advancing healthcare innovation across Australia. Over that time, both the sector and the professions within it have developed significantly, and the organisation has grown alongside them,”
This evolution is about recognition rather than reinvention. LifeSciences Australia better reflects who we are today, providing our members and the broader community with greater clarity around our role and strengthening our ability to support the future growth, capability and leadership of Australia’s life sciences sector.” Added Dr Boyle.
The evolution was informed by extensive member and stakeholder consultation undertaken throughout 2025, which identified a growing demand for an identity that better reflected the organisation’s expanding role and strengthened members’ professional standing. Throughout the process, life sciences consistently emerged as the identity that best captured the breadth of professions represented across the organisation.
The new identity will help support greater connection and engagement across both the Australian and international life sciences sector. This will build on the organisation’s established partnerships and networks, which span a broad range of products, technologies and regulatory environments, including the Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP), the Regulatory Affairs Professional Society (RAPS), and the Drug Information Association (DIA). These relationships connect Australian professionals with global best practice, internationally recognised accreditation pathways and a wider network of over 350,000 professionals globally.
Professor John Skerritt AM, Enterprise Professor in Health Research Impact at the University of Melbourne and former Deputy Secretary of the Australian Department of Health and Aged Care and Head of the Therapeutic Goods Administration, said: “As the sector continues to expand, clearer recognition of the professions and expertise of individuals underpinning Australia’s life sciences capability becomes increasingly important.
“A strong professional association helps support constructive engagement. LifeSciences Australia provides a more unified and recognisable identity for the professionals working across Australia’s life sciences sector, helping strengthen professional networks, capability and connections into the future.”
While the organisation’s identity is evolving, its longstanding commitment to professional development, sector leadership and supporting Australia’s life sciences workforce remains unchanged. Existing membership benefits, training programs and flagship offerings – including the ARCS Annual Conference – will continue within the broader LifeSciences Australia ecosystem.
LifeSciences Australia brings together the organisation’s expanding initiatives into an ecosystem of sub-brands – ARCS, Cognitio, BioBeacon and Horizons – providing a clearer structure designed to support professionals throughout their careers. LifeSciences Australia was formally launched at the ARCS Annual Conference on 10 June 2026, with a phased rollout designed to ensure continuity for members, with opportunities for future sub-brand consolidation or expansion to be assessed as part of a 12-month review.
