The AI Visibility Index
How visible are pharmaceutical and biotech brands in AI search?
Generative AI is increasingly shaping how people discover health information, evaluate treatment options and understand the brands and treatments available to them. But being an established healthcare company doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll be part of the answer.
Cube’s AI Visibility Index is Australia’s first and only large-scale analysis of AI visibility across the pharmaceutical and biotech industry, benchmarking more than 50 companies to understand how brands are being surfaced across AI search and generative AI platforms, and what influences their visibility.
What does AI visibility mean for healthcare brands?
AI search is creating a new visibility challenge for pharmaceutical and biotech companies.
Traditional search rankings are only part of the picture. Brands increasingly need to understand whether they are being surfaced within AI-generated answers, which sources AI systems are relying on, how they compare with competitors and what is influencing their visibility.
The AI Visibility Index explores these shifts and what they mean for healthcare communications, digital strategy and brand visibility.
How visible is your brand in AI?
The Index provides a market-wide benchmark, but every organisation’s AI visibility is different.
Cube can help you understand how your company and brands are being surfaced across AI search, how you compare with competitors, which sources are influencing AI-generated responses and where opportunities exist to strengthen visibility.
What the AI Visibility Index found
Our analysis found significant differences in how pharmaceutical and biotech companies are being surfaced and represented by AI.
65–70% of companies analysed have limited AI visibility.
AI visibility is concentrated among a relatively small group of companies. Being a large or established pharmaceutical brand does not necessarily translate into visibility within AI-generated responses.
Visibility varies significantly by AI platform
Where a brand appears can change significantly depending on the AI platform being used. Across the companies analysed, we found substantial differences in visibility between platforms, with some companies showing gaps of more than 40 points.
How we analysed pharmaceutical and biotech AI visibility
Using simulated real-world healthcare queries, we analysed more than 12,000 AI-generated responses across ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Grok, Google AI Mode and AI Overviews to examine:
- Which pharmaceutical brands, treatments and sources are surfaced in AI-generated responses
- How frequently they appear
- What influences whether brands and treatments are included in AI recommendations
- And why some treatments are prioritised over others depending on audience, intent and context
The findings provide a practical view of how AI is shaping pharmaceutical and biotech visibility, health information discovery and treatment recommendations as well as the strategic implications for healthcare communicators, digital teams and brand strategy.
